Madeline McGee is a Project Coordinator for Research at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society. She supports the Center’s Youth and Media (YaM) project, as well as contributing to the development and implementation of a wide range of research and education projects.
Madeline is passionate about building a digital world where young people are empowered to co-design solutions to social challenges alongside adults. She spends much of her time thinking about the intersection of youth, digital media, and democracy, and in particular the role of media and digital communication in the civic and political development of young people.
Before joining BKC, Madeline worked as a Diverse Democracy Fellow at the Center for Information & Research on Civic Learning and Engagement at Tufts University. There, she studied the interplay between media and civic engagement, with a particular focus on youth-adult partnerships and participatory design, youth voice and media creation, and local communication ecologies. Previously, she trained as a journalist, and continues to carry a deep interest (mostly driven by existential fear) in online political communication, mis/disinformation, and the sustainability of local news.
Her name is not pronounced like that of the character from the cartoon.
