Greg Gondwe

Faculty Associate

I am pleased to announce my return as a Faculty Associate with the Berkman Klein Center, following my tenure as a 2022-2023 Harvard Visiting Scholar at the Institute for Rebooting Social Media (RSM). As an Assistant Professor of Journalism Studies at California State University – San Bernardino, my research centers on the societal impact of emerging media trends in Sub-Saharan Africa. My ongoing projects continue to explore the nature of internet penetration in sub-Saharan Africa as it relates to zero-rating services. Within the broad approach, I have examined topics on how journalists are engaging with seemingly foreign technology and the audience receptive. Additionally, I am exploring the relationship between local communities and artificial intelligence (AI) in sub-Saharan Africa. These efforts aim to deepen our understanding of media dynamics in Africa and the impact of technology on social, political, and cultural contexts. I am committed to advancing knowledge in these fields and fostering critical discussions at the intersection of media, society, and technology. With my renewed affiliation with the Berkman Klein Center, I look forward to collaborating with esteemed colleagues and participating in interdisciplinary dialogues to further our understanding of the relationship between media, technology, and society.
