Chinmayi Arun is a research scholar, lecturer and the executive director of the Information Society Project at Yale Law School.
She researches platform governance, social media, the global data economy, and manipulative speech. She is particularly interested in how the law’s relationship with the major technology companies might change if the companies are treated as transnational, not local, actors. She also works on how marginalized populations are affected by technology. Arun has served as a human rights officer at the United Nations, working on questions of privacy, online speech, and artificial intelligence, on advisory committees of international bodies like UNESCO and UN Global Pulse, and on the board of the Global Network Initiative. She is a member of Data & Society's Scholars Council.
