“You’ll see really clear through-lines between the narratives and topics and activity that happens online and what eventually begins getting placed in mainstream media outlets,” she says. “So those things working together create this silo of [an] alternate reality where you not only have these certain beliefs that you can attribute to your own political predispositions, but they also work to align and really coalesce people around a shared ideology that may or may not be expressed explicitly within the group.”
