Amar Ashar and Jenna Sherman contributed to a new publication, “A Framework For the Ethical Use of Advanced Data Science Methods in the Humanitarian Sector,” which provides action-oriented steps to innovate in an ethical, responsible, and practical way.
The framework aims to provide a set of ethical and practical guidelines for humanitarian data collectors, users, and stakeholders to consider when applying data science for humanitarian work. It also cites the Berkman Klein Center’s Principled AI report.
Through their participation in the Humanitarian Data Science & Ethics Group, Ashar and Sherman provided expert insight for the framework, which is the result of international and interdisciplinary collaboration.
