The role of Facebook, YouTube and Co. can increasingly be described as a designer of societies. For a long time, the platforms have dismissed this responsibility and seen themselves as mere entertainment platforms. But new changes are coming, as YouTube announces tweaks to their algorithm to de-emphasize misinformation and conspiracy theory content.
"YouTube should understand that... this common idea of 'we just keep on recommending more videos' leads users to quickly land in conspiracy theories," says BKC Affiliate Jonas Kaiser. "I wish they understood that algorithms just have to work differently."
