An Xiao Mina, author of “Memes to Movements,” sees the practice of sharing food through photos as an extension of long-standing traditions dating back centuries. “I think it’s important to understand photos on social media as not just documentation, but also a mode of discourse,” Mina told TNW. “Food is one of the most social things we do as people — preparing food, presenting food, consuming food — these are very cultural and social actions, things we do with family and chosen family.”
