A moment of remembrance for a great person and great contributor to the VRM effort.
It was suggested that we might try to do something for his widow and two kids. Judi mentioned that she offered a place to host digital assets... since the online services sometimes don't make it easy to handle the digital remains of those active online.
This topic has come up before. The processes and rights, issues of power of attorney, and related issues just aren't quite being addressed. One such attempt is "DeathSwitch" [ed not: its not clear if this is a good or bad example].
It has been mentioned on "Jerry's" list to do some sort of memorial, and various others have voiced support for doing something. He was a consistent contributor to VRM, IIW, Berkman, and other community efforts to address the emerging world of digital identity, rights, privacy, and commerce.
It perhaps makes sense to make one's last wishes, wrt to their digital "self" may well be served in the VRM or VPI context. What sort of user-asserted terms may make sense when the inevitable end eventually happens?
There is a current discussion in the UK regarding individual's right to own their own medical data. It is currently owned jointly by NHS and the individual. The problem is access and completeness. On the one hand, it is great that a digital record exists, but it only tracks NHS services, so other services don't get tracked and added.
Meeting at next IIW
Suggestion to schedule before, rather than after.
Offer to use the Computer History museum as a space, but that would create a set of possible complications.
Dean suggested two days prior to IIW rather than just one.
Joe made the case that we had already talked about an East Coast event in October and that a two day event at IIW might be too much.
Dean suggested a focused, structured agenda. He mentioned concerns that with just one day of an open space.
Keith suggested maybe an open workshop followed by a steering committee dinner. Joe said it might be hard to do a half a day open space.
Doc likes the idea of a focused dinner, following an open day workshop. Joe mentions that since we are only doing one day, that could work well, since we can have closure on the open space by the end of the day, then head off to a closed meeting.
For example, the Oracle meeting was closed to a smaller group and everyone there was well versed in VRM.
October Event
There is a consensus on an October event. Note religious holidays: The World Series (3rd week in October, probably starting 10/21). Also the Digital Identity World and commensurate Kantara Initiative are in Vegas 14-16. So, the week of October 12 would be preferable. Monday is a holiday. 14-15th, Wednesday/Thursday. We'll suggest to the steering committee list.

There was a recent announcement of an agreement reached on licensing for pure-play online services. Doc is queued up for a lot of writing. There's lots going on.
Marketing Committee
More active than we've ever been. Don Thorson has been a real shot in the arm for us. We are laying low until we've got it done. Making great progress. "Now a freight train to watch out for..."
Doc asked for a mockup by mid next week. Dean asked for copy from Doc. Doc says he has it.
