Fay Johnson

ASML Fellow

Fay Johnson is a seasoned product management leader with over two decades of experience driving innovation in consumer technology. Her work focuses on fostering trust, safety, and meaningful connection across digital platforms. Fay is a Fellow within the Applied Social Media Lab where she conducts applied research on depolarization and enhancing civility in online discourse. She is exploring in-app interventions to encourage constructive interactions, grounded in behavior change psychology and pro-social behavioral theory.

Fay’s career includes product leadership roles at Meta, Twitter, and Nextdoor, where she developed and scaled solutions to complex trust and safety challenges. At Meta, she led product efforts on transparency, fairness, and regulatory compliance, including developing the systems architecture for the Oversight Board and initiatives to ensure fairness in machine learning. At Twitter (now X), she directed teams focused on reporting, appeals, and self-remediation tools to empower users while maintaining compliance with global privacy regulations. Most recently, at Nextdoor, Fay served as Head of Product for Neighborhood Vitality, overseeing trust and safety, content moderation, and AI-driven solutions to promote kind conversations.

Fay also founded Deliberate Discourse, an anti-bias and depolarization initiative that has shaped her passion for creating safe spaces—online and offline—where people can engage meaningfully across differences.
